Dr. Adam Ohms

Dr. Adam Ohms, Practice Owner

Dr. Adam Ohms is a 2009 graduate from the University Of Illinois College Of Veterinary Medicine. He has practiced general medicine, surgery, and emergency medicine in the Metro-East area since 2011. His special interests in veterinary medicine include internal medicine/critical care and soft tissue/orthopedic surgery.

He is married to Amanda Ohms with their first little girl, Aria, due in July. They share their home with one spoiled terrier, Oliver, and a very vocal and bossy feline, Squeeks. When he is not practicing medicine, you better believe he is trying to be out on the lake chasing Largemouth Bass.

Oliver

Oliver, Supervisor

Oliver was born in 2011 and adopted by Dr. Ohms from Second Chance Rescue (Vandalia) later that year. From very meager beginnings, Oliver has become a “one-of-a-kind”. He has worked many general medicine and emergency shifts with Dr. Ohms. Currently, he is overseeing all grooming operations with Amanda. When not working hard in grooming, Oliver enjoys bass and crappie fishing, practicing lick and release.

He loves camping, canoeing, and barking at any bicycle in eye-sight. When New Year’s resolutions are kept, running is a favored activity. He waits very patiently every night to give Dr. Ohms snuggles and hears all about his day at work. Truly, one of his most special talents!

Amanda Ohms, Groomer

Amanda Ohms, Groomer

Amanda graduated Edwardsville High School in 2008. She is an experienced groomer, providing grooming services for the past 6 years. What sets Amanda apart is her scissoring ability that provides top notch grooming beyond the average trimmers. Grooming is a profession that requires patience, Dr. Ohms and Oliver test this patience routinely. As they say practice makes perfect! When not grooming, Amanda enjoys crafting, camping, and floating.
Shelbi, Certified Veterinary Technician

Shelbi, Veterinary Technician

Shelbi graduated from the Vet Tech Institute at Hicky College and became a Certified Veterinary Technician in 2012. Her special interests in veterinary medicine are dentistry, dental radiography, surgery, anesthesia and pain management. She enjoys visiting family and friends, reading, motorcycle cruises, and hiking with her puppy pack. Pet rescue is near to her heart as she shares her home with 3 dogs and 4 cats: Maxine, Fletcher, Roman and Anabelle, Nina, Tess and Autumn.
Kathy

Kathy, Veterinary Technician

Kathy grew up in Bethalto and now resides in Worden with her husband Eric and 3 children, Maddie, Grace and Bo. She graduated from Murray State University with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with an emphasis in Animal health technology. She has worked in the veterinary field for over 23 years. When not working, Kathy enjoys time with family and friends and traveling for her children’s activities. Her fur babies include Deedee, a beagle with an affinity to getting things stuck up her nose, her kitty-Clayton, Cheyenne-horse, multiple chickens, one duck and a crazy turkey named Willard!
Dana, Office Manager

Dana, Office Manager

Dana (Donna) started her work with animals by volunteering at various animal shelters as a teenager. In April 1994, Dana began working as a receptionist/technician at Adair Gardens Pet Hospital in Belleville, Illinois. Upon Dr. Martin’s retirement in 2005, Dana continued her career with Hawthorne Animal Hospital. During her tenure in animal medicine, Dana has had the pleasure of serving in various roles including client relations, management and veterinarian technician. In July 2018, Dana joined the staff at Heartland Animal Hospital as the Office Manager.

Dana is married to James and has four beloved “fur” babies of her own. Tonka is an eight year old Shepherd/Collie mix, Dash and Violet are three year old Pit/Catahoula mixed breed litter mates, and Ruffian, a long-haired Dachshund, is a retired show dog. When not working her dream job at Heartland, this self-proclaimed Disney addict loves traveling (especially to Orlando!)
